Aethervolk
A blighted race tainted by the corruptive forces of the veil, the Aethervolk have achieved magical and technological supremacy, but at severe cost. Their cities glow with beautiful arcane light, their foundries churn with industrious fervor, while their people grasp towards slivers of light, praying for any route to salvation, no matter the price.
The Aethervolk are obsessed with advancement and knowledge, much to their own detriment. The mages they boast must contend with the cost of their brilliance, with the Aetherblight drawing upon their own life-force with every spell until they are withered husks. When the individual is no longer fit for their role in society, they are disposed of in the Cairnworks- a sanitarium of sorts- to await their processing into undead creatures to bolster the ranks of the military and labor forces.
The sickness dwelling within each Aethervolk is conveniently ignored by their culture at large, preferring to focus more on their menial tasks and studies until the premature end comes too soon, although some rumors claim that the ruling class has already found a cure for this blight, silencing those that come too close to unveiling the truth.
